Alta Products, located in Santa Clara, CA, has accomplished a 23.five percent efficiency rating using its standard cell, while Semprius, a Durham, NC company, has accomplished a rating of 33.9 % using its concentrated solar offering -- besting the prior records of 22.9 % and 33 percent, correspondingly. Oddly enough enough, both clothes chose to employ a new material to create their sun-sopping cells: gallium arsenide.
