Streaming-media boxes such as the Roku LT and Apple TV are affordable and fun, plus they'll provide you with plenty to keep an eye on the holiday season. I have personally had plenty of success giving universal remote controls such as the Logitech Harmony 650 like a gift. Very few people wish to spend $60 on the remote, but when they've one, they cannot imagine returning.
They are my top overall home entertainment picks, varying from speakers to video games, but when I needed to pick only one it might be the Roku LT. It is a solid option for almost anybody with a minimum of a Netflix account and it is cheap enough to purchase one for any friend.
