Nikon Coolpix S01 hands-on (video)

Nikon Coolpix S01 handson

Another jewel at Nikon's unveiling today is that this little Coolpix S01, by "little" we really mean little. Just 96 grams, this is actually the littlest and least heavy Coolpix device ever but it is still remarkably functional. But like our hands-up with the Android-powered S800c, we could not leave with any sample photos to evaluate the S01's image quality. Only a quick recap: here you receive a 10-megapixel CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom (29mm to 87mm), 720p video capture, several filter effects along with a simple touch interface on the 2.5-inch LCD. We saw five color options in Hong Kong: pink, black, whitened, red-colored and silver (fingerprint magnet alert!). Our only complaints are nevertheless camera utilizes a resistive touch screen, and the possible lack of whitened balance options can also be quite bizarre -- $179 is not exactly an inexpensive enough cost to warrant this flaw. Still interested Go to the video following the break for any quick tour.
