An Account of Two New Metropolitan areas for Cairo and Istanbul

The intends to build two new mixed-used developments east and west of Cairo -- not too artistically named Eastown and Westown -- came praise in the Middle East environment website Eco-friendly Prophet:

Initially created to soak up Cairo's overflow, and also to create a more pedestrian-friendly model which will ease traffic congestion and pollution, these new metropolitan centers will both service 2.5 million people within ten years.

Leaving the first kind development model that separated commercial and residential areas, forcing citizens to possess cars or use the bus to be able to maintain their lives, Eastown and Westown will knit all services into one urban fabric.

The project has been created by having an eye toward sustainability, Eco-friendly Prophet authored: "Particularly, many designers are thinking about double glazed to lessen photo voltaic gain, responsible building materials, good insulation to enhance energy efficiency, and passive design which will minimize energy dependency to begin with."

Plans for 2 new Istanbuls introduced by Turkish Pm Recep Tayyip Erdo an just before Turkey's national election were more questionable. While Erdo an stated both new satellite metropolitan areas would alleviate overcrowding and earthquake danger, experts condemned the vagueness from the plans and the possible lack of environment impact or feasibility studies. They stated the brand new developments would only draw more migration to Istanbul while paving over a few of the last forested areas round the city.
