Acer launches Ultrabook-like Aspire V5 series, we go hands-on (video)

After trotting out some mobile fare at MWC, Acer has not drawn within the reigns on its cool product equine, announcing its new V5 notebook today at CeBIT. Yes, notebook. At 30 % slimmer compared to class it replaces, they are still trim machines. The 11.6-inch model is just 15mm thick, that is distance to Ultrabook territory, as the 14- and 15-inch models land at 21 and sub-23mm correspondingly. It's Apple inside, including Core i3 and Core i5 processors, with NVIDIA GeForce GT series on-board to deal with graphics. Release is penciled set for Q2, and prices is anticipated to vary from &euro499 to &euro699 (about $650 to $920). If you are looking for something a little less costly but you are in to the V5's design, you may take serious notice from the Aspire One netbook computer, that is set to make use of exactly the same chassis and can ship with Apple Pentium and Celeron processors rather, with prices believed between &euro399 and &euro449 (about $525 to $590).

We went hands-up with a dummy type of the V5 at CeBIT, although the prototype we had today might not be the precise design you will find in shops later this month. The 15.6-inch sample was very thin and relatively light, having a full-size chiclet keyboard and numberpad quietly. There is a USB 3. port around the left-hands side, together with two standard USB 2. ports, an High-definition multimedia interface connector and proprietary Ethernet port. Gleam pop-out optical drive around the right, though there is no SD slot around the corner. Overall, it is a excellent design, but we'll have to watch for the organization to demo functional versions before we are able to pass judgement on performance. Of course, you will find our video overview just beyond the break.
