NetZero launches '4G' wireless service, we go hands-on
Remember NetZero Today the organization introduced it's starting NetZero 4G Special Broadband, a radio service moving in 80 US metropolitan areas and offering value-listed monthly data plans without activation costs, contracts, obligations or overage charges. Clients can chose between two amounts of service -- Lightspeed (as much as 1Mbps lower / 384Kbps up) to save data and Warpspeed (as much as 10Mbps lower / 1.5Mbps up) for optimum performance -- and may switch backwards and forwards simply by logging into NetZero's website (this could require fifteen minutes). Five monthly data plans can be found:
  • Free, $, 200MB (restricted to Lightspeed and restricted to twelve months)
  • Fundamental, $9.95, 500MB (restricted to Lightspeed)
  • Plus, $19.95, 1GB
  • Professional, $34.95, 2GB
  • Platinum, $49.95, 4GB
Two products can be found -- the NetZero 4G Stick ($49.95 + shipping) is really a Home windows and OS X-compatible USB modem and also the NetZero 4G Hotspot ($99.95 + shipping) is definitely an eight device-capable Wi-fi compatability hotspot by having an LCD along with a 2,200mAh battery.

To date, so great -- NetZero has become an MVNO. Yet oddly, there is no mention most of the PR regarding which network the organization is applying. We test drove NetZero's new wireless service over the past weekend while using Wi-fi compatability hotspot and determined it's using Clearwire's WiMAX network. Actually NetZero's 4G Stick is similar towards the Obvious 4G Mobile USB modem (manufactured by Ubee), and it is 4G Hotspot is equivalent to the Obvious Place Apollo (an extremely bulky unit produced by Gemtek)-- begin to see the FCC links below and browse on for the impressions following the break.
