Apple lands preliminary prohibit against Samsung Universe Nexus in america (update: search patent the important thing)

Galaxy Nexus HSPA

It has not been Samsung's best week. Just days after Judge Lucy Koh granted an initial prohibit on sales from the Universe Tab 10.1, she's following up having a similar granted request around the Universe Nexus. Judge Koh had already signaled that they thought Apple's suit over four patents may have merit, but it is but now that she's determining the possibility damage may be worth halting sales from the phone until there is a final trial verdict. Samsung will without doubt attempt to appeal the dispute, which focuses on Android 4.0's slide-to-unlock mechanism (among additional factors), but there is lots more emergency here compared to the outgoing Tab 10.1: the Universe Nexus continues to be a present-generation device, and merely grew to become Google's Android 4.1 phone flagship. Samsung's odds aren't great considering that Apple has used among the patents to provide HTC grief using its imports.

Update: As patent suit guru Florian Mueller found, the clincher for that prohibit was the patent on unified search that's associated with Siri. Although Judge Koh is inclined to think Apple's view regarding all patents, that search patent may be the one whose breach would apparently merit greater than a slap around the wrist. She's similarly believing that Apple's patents are legitimate and likely will not be ignored in the near future.
