Google throughout its I/O keynote hit a symbolic milestone: it presently has 600,000 applications within the Google Play Store. Too, the shop is clearly striking a brisk pace in adoption, with 1.5 billion downloads each month and 20 billion since Android started. Free applications can be found in 190 nations, with compensated applications in 132. The application and download counts compare fairly well to Apple's own claims, while not globally: it is simply lacking the Application Store's 650,000 applications, but Apple can continue to indicate 30 billion total downloads. Google also has not stated the number of applications are clearly tablet-friendly versus 225,000 iPad-oriented applications. In either case, Google know it has largely removed the application quantity deficit, and that is no mean task.
