Just hrs ago we reported the One Laptop Per Child project would unveil their $100 tablet at CES. So we have a few of the first official photos from the highly affordable, yet very durable device.
Just like the initial OLPC, plastic may be the preferred selection of materials here, keeping the prospective cost to some single benjamin. However the 8-inch display seems to become protected having a soft silicone cover. The OLPC project is obviously specific at kids, so as the XO 3. isn't any t nearly as thin because the apple ipad 2, its chunky form factor does provide the look of being Tonka tough.
I am particularly interested in within the silicone cover as pictured within this shot. When energy is not available the XO 3. could be billed with a hands-crank, but that blue patterned material within the coverage looks suspiciously just like a photo voltaic cell. I wish to think that having the ability to charge it having a couple of hrs of sunlight is definitely an option, but that $100 cost provides me with my doubts. [TechCrunch]
