DirecTV iPad application adds (some) TV and movie streaming 'Everywhere' (Update: beta)

Image
After adding live TV streaming features towards the DirecTV iPad application last fall, the organization is growing the feature today by pushing upgrading that allows audiences watch video (but no live TV, yet) even if they are abroad. Named DirecTV Everywhere, the result is on the business's promises more video for customer's mobile products, offering "selected" video on-demand programming for on the run viewing. The Solid Signal Blog comes with an early preview from the additional features with increased screenshots along with a video, revealing that available content right now includes premium movie channels (Cinemax systems, Starz, The new sony Movie Funnel) and DirecTV's own Audience Network. In the end watch for more content, other additional features range from the Popular Trends social module tugging out of your Facebook buddies to determine what they are watching, and social checkins with Miso. We've not become any official info from DirecTV around the upgrade past the changelog, but for the time being you should check out iTunes for that particulars.

Update: We have heard back from DirecTV, as well as their stance would be that the DirecTV Everywhere services are still under beta test, which might explain the limited content availability right now. Apart from the iPad application, submissions are also likely to be available through DirecTV.com, and that we should search for a national launch at the end of spring / early summer time.

[Thanks, Brandon &lifier John]

  1. This is a good upgrade for Directv customers, even if the selection of content is limited or “selected”, as Directv put it. When are Directv and the other TV providers going to give live TV streaming away from home? I only know of one service provider that does, DISH, my employer. Using the DISH Remote Access app I can connect to my Hopper through a Sling Adapter. This gives me the ability to stream live TV and DVR recordings anywhere I can get 3g, 4g or WIFI. They are currently letting people try out DISH Remote Access with the DISH Test Drive. Existing customers, and non customers who are curious can sign up for a free trial that gives people the chance to watch TV anywhere they want!
