Linux is available in a variety of tastes -- it's a part of why is the OS so confusing to newbies. To complicate matters, probably the most popular variants are really according to other distros, for example Linux Mint, the refreshing desktop that's based largely on Ubuntu. So, if you are wondering what's new within the Mint 13, a great starting point is most likely our overview of the aubergine OS. Obviously, Maya includes a couple of facial lines of their own -- including a set of desktop options named MATE and Cinnamon. MATE, since you may recall, has been around since the final version, but Cinnamon is new (read: a tad unstable) and built on the modern framework using Gnome 3 and Clutter. There has been a couple of other new additions, together with a new display manager in MDM along with a change to Yahoo! because the default internet search engine. As always with one of these things, you are able to download it and give it a try free of charge in the source.
