NASA hopes that certain small step by Google's Lunar X Prize will ultimately result in a giant leap in safeguarding historic sites around the moon. The X Prize Foundation introduced that it'll adopt recommendations launched through the space agency this past year to assist preserve lunar heritage sites. The move comes in a crucial time like a new space race increases the potential of an imminent moon landing, based on NASA. Google's Lunar X Prize alone presently has 26 participants worldwide competing to land a robot around the lunar surface by 2015. NASA stressed their recommendations aren't law and "don't represent mandatory U.S. or worldwide needs." Good examples include approach and landing recommendations to reduce disturbance, contamination and degradation of Apollo mission sites. That certainly sounds more modest than, say, putting some dude inside a spacesuit in a lunar outpost to shoot trespassers having a plasma shotgun while yelling, "Leave my property!"
