DirecTV cuts 3-D funnel from 24-hour to part-time

La (AP) DirecTV states it's reduced the programming hrs of their 24-hour 3-D funnel, n3D, because of lack of 3-D content.

The satellite television provider released the funnel to much fanfare in This summer 2010, boasting the backing of Panasonic Corp. The organization stated it had been the very first 3-D funnel to function night and day.

A dearth of three-D programs on n3D brought towards the same shows being run inside a constant loop. Now, when there's nothing available, the funnel can have the n3D logo design. Should there be an approaching function, particulars can look around the program guide 2 or 3 days ahead of time.

The lower hrs started June 1.

It is the latest setback for 3-D TV, that has had trouble bringing in mainstream audiences.

DirecTV's funnel is not the very first 3-D offering to stumble. Last August, AT&T Corporation. stated its U-verse selection of video channels would no more include ESPN three dimensional. The organization stated the price wasn't justified, "especially thinking about the reduced demand we have seen from clients."

Meanwhile, sales of three-D Televisions are growing. Monitoring firm NPD Group stated recently that 3-D Televisions paid for for 11 percent of flat-panel TV sales within the first three several weeks of the season. That's nearly double the amount rate of last year.

DirecTV spokesperson Robert Mercer stated n3D continues to air 3-D shows like "Guitar Center Periods" and intends to air Olympic games coverage in 3-D this summer time.

To look at the funnel, audiences require a 3-D ready TV, an HD receiver, and HD service, that amounted to $10 per month. The funnel can be obtained to any or all DirecTV customers.
