HTC's waterproof, WiMAX-capable J phone available these days in Hong Kong and Taiwan

HTC's waterproof J handset now available in Hong Kong and Taiwan

To not be surpassed by Motorola and Nokia, HTC's silently attempting to steal a few of the competition's thunder by suddenly outing a not-for-purchase, fashion-driven variant from the One X and today using the announcement that it is 4.3-inch waterproof J phone is going to be heading to some more Asian marketplaces. Obviously, let us remember the Taiwanese outfit also offers another thing to exhibit us in an approaching function in New york city. But, no matter what we'll "see next," the J's really here -- well, in Japan -- with eyes intent on Hong Kong and Taiwan next, causeing this to be the very first time that Sense 4-loaded system is headed outdoors the Land from the Rising Sun.

Only a quick recap: the HTC J has a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8660A, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, qHD PenTile OLED display, eight-megapixel camera and 1,810mAh battery. For connectivity, you receive quad-band GSM, WCDMA 2,100MHz, CDMA2000 800MHz and WiMAX 2.5-2.7GHz (for Japan and Taiwan only) radios, which makes it a reasonably nice all-rounder although with limited regional compatibility for each one of the faster connections. Oh, contributing to that waterproofing business: KDDI does not really list it as being a waterproof device, but HTC informed us that although the J meets global standards for waterproofing, it's not promoted as a result in Japan because of particular criteria needed by stated company. We shall increase the info here if HTC has more to say of this.

Anyway, Hong Kong folks will have the ability to get this waterproof device for HK$4,498 (about $580) unsubsidized, whereas Taiwan will need to hold back until the press event next Tuesday for tariff particulars on Taiwan Mobile. For the time being, we've got a video from the J taking a go swimming following the break. You realize, only for kicks.
