MakerBot Store tour (video)

MakerBot Store tour

Following the news-filled event MakerBot held, just lower the road in the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, we found a number of cars prepared to ferry us to Manhattan. The cars were not there to come back the press for their various offices, rather they shuttled us en-masse towards the completely new MakerBot Store that opened up today in NOHO. The little shop sits on Mulberry St., just half a block north of Houston -- number 298 to be precise. Out front is really a small discreet sign that reads "MakerBot." What's going to really draw people inside may be the six-feet tall three dimensional-printed track that guides giant ballbearings via a maze of curves and spirals within the window. Step inside and also the sculpture becomes interactive. You spin a sizable wheel (also printed) along with a magnet gradually moves the orbs in the wall before adding them in the beginning point and delivering them sailing with the multi-track course (video following the break). Just about everything within the shop, lower towards the posts and locks around the displays, can also be printed around the company's flagship product, the Replicator 2. Additionally to purchasing the ink jet printers and compatible spools of plastic, you may also get mementos produced together, like the MixTape. If you prefer a less costly illustration of the Replicator's wares, there is a gumball-style snack machine that dispenses toys whenever you place a $5 token and provide the knob a satisfying twist.
