Samsung Universe Camera marries Android and photography on AT&ampT, we go hands-on (update: video!)

Samsung Galaxy Camera marries Android and photography, we go handson

Samsung's Android-powered Universe Camera is a little of the wild card, getting married to Google's Android Jelly Bean OS having a 16-megapixel camera -- heck, it's even had a 4.8-inch 1,280 x 720-pixel (308 ppi) touch screen display. Yup, instead of offering an electronic viewfinder out back just like a normal digital point-and-shoot, the Samsung Universe Camera provides a multitouch panel the whole back includes that 4.8-inch screen, edge-to-edge. It isn't all touch screen, though -- several buttons (controlling a pop-up expensive, energy, zoom toggle, and shutter release) are also found in the somewhat bulky build. Past the Wi-fi compatability radio built-in, the Universe Camera also includes 3rd generation/4G support via micro-SIM -- which now that we know a minumum of one company will support: AT&T.

Throughout a celebration using the cellular data company today, we've got our hands-around the Universe Camera once again (although with an AT&T micro-SIM aboard). That fast 1.4GHz quad-core processor assisted us along, quickly swiping through Jelly Bean's panes and starting its photo application quickly. Applications like Instagram were also displayed, permitting for better photos to become defiled by software filters (we kid!). The AT&T connectivity permitted us to upload photos straight to the cloud while nipping, utilizing its Auto Cloud Backup feature image quality is not quite professional-grade, nevertheless its no slouch either.

The Universe Camera is, for those intents and reasons, a complete-on Android smartphone ... minus that whole "phone" factor. Its heft is possibly a lot more than we want inside a point-and-shoot, but that gigantic -- and gorgeous -- viewfinder out back certainly helps assuage our space concerns. The unit gets to both service providers and camera merchants this October to have an unknown cost.

Update: We have added another gallery having a couple of shots we clicked using the Samsung Universe Camera in the event -- forgive them if they are not spectacular. The warmth from the moment!

Update 2: We have added much more photos shot using the Universe Camera to the second gallery below, along with a quick hands-on video soon after the break.
