Two times daily collection yields greater semen output and doesn't affect male libido within the ostrich.
The prosperity of a man-made insemination enter in ostriches is extremely determined by the yield of viable semen. We, therefore, examined how semen output is impacted by three different collection wavelengths: once every 2d (48h interval), daily (24h interval), and two times each day (6h interval). Ejaculate's were collected from seven male ostriches (aged 2-4 years) for 10 consecutive days while using dummy female method. We evaluated semen qualities (sperm motility, volume, concentration, quantity of sperm per ejaculate and sperm stability) and male libido (the delay between your presentation from the dummy and ejaculation, and also the readiness to mount the dummy). The entire daily creation of semen and the amount of sperm were greater in the 6h collection interval than in the 24h or 48h interval while sperm motility and stability weren't affected. In the 6h interval, the amount of live normal sperm elevated within the treatment period while the amount of live abnormal sperm was reduced. In addition, time that males required to mount the dummy as well as their readiness to copulate using the dummy were untouched by collection frequency. Across males we observed great individual variation both in semen qualities and libido recommending there's the possibility to improve the efficiency of semen collection by choosing superior males. These results indicate not just that two collections daily yield maximum semen output and could improve semen stability, but additionally that quantifying variation between males might help further increase semen collection efficiency.
