ITC issues preliminary ruling, finds Microsoft's Xbox 360 infringes on Motorola patents

Potential not so good news to begin a few days for Microsofties: a judge in the US Worldwide Trade Commission has released an initial ruling that finds Microsoft's Xbox 360 360 infringes on five four of Motorola's patents (as well as in Microsoft's favor on a single). As the decision is in no way final -- meaning the Redmond outfit could ultimately prevail -- your final ruling would pressure Microsoft's hands to find proper licenses for that technologies, many of which connect with H.264 video encoding, or have its gaming system banned from US shelves. For the time being, the lawyers will return to the lab to refine their arguments and prepare to provide these to a complete panel of ITC idol judges later this season.
