Thanks for visiting Becoming An Adult Geek, an element where we have a look back at our youth, and tell tales of becoming an adult to become the brainiacs that we're. Now, we've our personal Ben Gilbert! He likes ninja turtles, clearly.
In my experience, as being a "geek" about something -- anything, really -- has been super, super passionate about this subject. It's that passion that came me to documentaries like Helvetica, or King of Kong. It's that passion, observed in speeches and conversations with co-workers, that renews my passion for game titles each year I attend GDC. It's that passion that endears me to individuals like Stephen King and Trent Reznor. And it is that passion -- that nerdery -- that I have introduced to music, journalism, and also the medium of game titles.
But that is always something I required as a given. My father's desire for art meant becoming an adult inside a house full of his incredible works of art. Did not everybody My mother's desire for learning meant she'd three levels, together with a Ph.D., despite getting little financial help and originating from another country. Totally normal!
My point is not to brag (though, seriously, my parents are essentially superheroes), but to state that the idea of as being a "geek" never was an overseas someone to me. Becoming an obsessive weirdo was always pretty normal within my family. I am talking about that in a great way.
