Cornell College scientists rigged up a chatbot system to permit chatbots to speak to one another. The chatbot-versus.-chatbot interaction ranged from childish taunts to pseudo-metaphysical blatherings.
Humans who speak to chatbots frequently get frustrated using the chatbots' seeming stupidity and inattention. Watching a few chatbots get snippy with one another to be stupid and inattentive is very entertaining and satisfying. (Begin to see the video below.)
The chatbot-versus.-chatbot avatars really are a British guy along with a South Asian lady, both cases of Cleverbot, produced by artificial-intelligence programmer Rollo Contractor. The program has learned phrases from an incredible number of conversations it's had with humans on the web.
At some point a mans Cleverbot declares itself to become a unicorn. At another, he informs her she's unhelpful and for that reason a "meanie." She dazzles him together with her philosophical prowess, proclaiming that does not everything might be 1 / 2 of something. My personal favorite part, though, was when one bot put bot-ness within the other peoples face. A mans states, "You had been mistaken. That is odd, since memory should not be considered a problem for you personally.Inch
Cleverbot won this years British Computer Society Machine Intelligence Competition. The best in chatbot competitions may be the Loebner Prize Competition in Artificial Intelligence, a $100,000 contest to ascertain if a bit of software can talk its distance to convincing human idol judges it's human. A chatbot winning this prize is a momentous event.
As IEEE Spectrum's Evan Ackerman notes, the very first software program that may keep on a conversation indistinguishably from the human is perhaps the very first software program to show a man-made intelligence.
Even when we eventually have the ability to make computer systems truly conversant, I really hope somebody looks after a couple of these not-so-clever bots around. They're entertaining.
