EV P001 becomes first EV to interrupt eight-minute barrier at Nrburgring

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has knocked greater than a minute from the lap record to have an electric vehicle (EV) in the Nrburgring Nordschleife circuit. With a time period of 7 minutes, 47.794 seconds, the TMG EV P001 beat the prior record of 9 minutes 1.338 seconds set through the Peugeot EX1 in April. TMG accomplished its goal to become the very first EV to interrupt the eight-minute barrier on August 29 in fine weather using the track temps remaining relatively low.

With Jochen Krumbach in the wheel, the TMG EV P001 completed the brand new lap record on road-legal tires, while using complete Nordschleife track and was verified by independent lap timing. TMG states the performance from the vehicle, which has a top speed of 260 km/h (161.5 miles per hour) and 800 Nm of torque, shows its electric powertrain composed of two electric motors is good to energy any future single-make electric motorsport series. It intends to begin commercial sales from the technology in 2012.

"The goals with this project were twofold: clearly we desired to set a brand new EV lap record and i'm happy we're able to make that happen so adequately," stated Pascal Vasselon, TMG's Technical Director. "However, we also wanted to explore the whole process of our electric powertrain in extreme conditions in motorsport there's forget about extreme circuit compared to Nrburgring."

"About the record lap the TMG EV P001 carried out much better than in testing because of the advance we already might make according to that have. We now have enhanced our electric powertrain development because of the data our engineers have acquired and our future EV items may benefit out of this project," Vasselon added.
