In Feb, the organization's Boss, Deborah Tabart posted a petition (see clearly here) towards the Australian Senate to think about listing koalas underneath the Environment Protection and Bio-diversity Conservation Act. Doing this will make conservation efforts much simpler: koala habitats could be protected and funds for research provided.
However the proposal isn't without opposition. Property designers in Queensland, where koalas are specifically threatened, reason that safeguarding the koalas (as well as their habitats) would add prohibitive costs for their companies, based on the Australian Financial Review.
Ultimately, your decision can be federal Sustainability Minister, Tony Burke, who'll come to a decision depending on findings in the Senate committee that Tabart posted her petition, reported The Independent.
