The spitting behavior of two types of spitting cobras.
Spitting cobras defend themselves by spitting their venom when confronted with a harasser. Although it's quite common belief that spitting cobras direct their venom in the eyes of the aggressor, it has never been looked into. Here, we reveal that the spitting act of cobras (Naja nigricollis and N. pallida) can readily be triggered with a moving human face or with a moving real size photo of the human face. In comparison, a stationary human face (real or photo) or perhaps a moving or stationary human hands doesn't trigger the spitting act. If threatened, spitting cobras goal their venom, thrown in both two distinct jets (N. pallida) or perhaps in an excellent spray (N. nigricollis), either between your eyes or at one eye. Both in cobra species looked into, the width and height from the area hit through the venom was separate from eye distance (test range 5.5 centimetres and 11 centimetres). Throughout the spitting act the cobras carried out fast undulating mind actions that result in a bigger distribution of the venom. This behavior boosts the probability that a minumum of one eye from the aggressor is hit.
