He loves me, he loves me not . . . : uncertainty can increase romantic attraction.
These studies qualifies a social mental truism: that individuals like other people who like them (the reciprocity principle). College women seen the Facebook profiles of 4 male students who had formerly seen their profiles. These were told the males (a) loved them a great deal, (b) loved them only a typical amount, or (c) loved them whether lot or perhaps an average amount (uncertain condition). Comparison from the first couple of conditions produced results in conjuction with the reciprocity principle. Participants were more drawn to males who loved them a great deal rather than males who loved them a typical amount. Recent results for the uncertain condition, however, were in line with research around the pleasures of uncertainty. Participants within the uncertain condition were most drawn to the males-much more attracted than were participants who have been told the males loved them a great deal. Uncertain participants reported taking into consideration the males probably the most, which elevated their attraction toward the males.
