TIME's health blog, Healthland, includes a quite interesting piece around the pancreatic cancer Jobs have been fighting before he died.
Based on the publish:
"Pancreatic cancer is among the faster distributing cancer no more than 4% of patients can get to outlive 5 years after their diagnosis. Every year, about 44,000 new cases are identified within the U.S., and 37,000 people die from the disease.
The pancreas consists of two kinds of glands: exocrine glands that produce enzymes that break lower fats and proteins, and endocrine glands which make the body's hormones like blood insulin that regulate sugar within the bloodstream. Jobs died of growths coming initially from within the endocrine glands, which are probably the more rare types of pancreatic cancer."
Jobs had searched for out alternative remedies for coping with the condition one as being a special diet, and the other apparently as being a radiation-based hormone treatment in Europe that isn't obtainable in the U.S.

States Healthland:
"Whether these remedies assisted to increase Jobs' existence or improve the standard of his last days is not obvious. But cancer experts expressed surprise that Jobs made it as lengthy because he did, ongoing to battle his disease. Other pancreatic cancer patients typically aren't as fortunate. Another high-profile patient, actor Patrick Swayze, handled to reside for 25 several weeks after his diagnosis, benefiting from chemotherapy remedies. But, overall, patients' median survival is usually only five several weeks."
So Jobs apparently outlasted an illness having a median five-month survival rate from a minimum of mid-2004, when he apparently revealed his illness to Apple employees, until early October 2011. And for the reason that period of time, Apple released a number of its greatest items many revealed personally by Jobs themself.
