NASA models fly through of ginormous crack in Antarctic glacier, goes for virtual ride

It's a trap! NASA uses The Force in virtual fly-through of ginormous Antarctic crack
Swooping with the trenches from the Dying Star likely will rank very well on every geek's bucket list, but because of the worldwide economic crisis, we likely will not be seeing Dubai's Dying Star in the near future. Fortunately, individuals at NASA have rigged up a passable alternative -- flying via a massive 19-mile crack across Antarctica's Pine Island Glacier. The crack is discovered last October and measures 60 yards wide and 50 yards deep, certainly ample clearance to support adventurous fliers. Using data collected by NASA's Operation IceBridge science flight team, the company produced an animated fly using that, well, mostly travelled over the crack -- but we are certain would be a defensive maneuver. In the end, you simply don't know whenever a TIE fighter flown by someone's father might sneak up from behind. Begin to see the icy flyover yourself following the break.
