Acer's Iconia A100 tablet might be postponed.
(Credit: Bonnie Cha/CNET)Compatibility problems between Android 3. and Acer's 7-inch Iconia A100 tablet will apparently delay the launch from the new tablet, based on a tale in DigiTimes.
Initially set to begin selling the brand new tablet by May or June, Acer has become deleting the launch for an August-September time period.
Since Android 3. Honeycomb was created particularly for bigger-screen pills, Acer has discovered a number of applications within the new OS which are incompatible with 7-inch screens, claims DigiTimes, stating industry sources. On its finish, Bing is apparently attempting to fix other conditions, also placing a crimp within the launch.
When the report holds true, this could mark another delay for Acer's Iconia A100. The tablet was initially for auction on Amazon's U.K. Site as starting on April 20, based on several reviews. But Amazon . com has since taken lower that date, simply changing it having a note inviting clients to become informed once the item opens up.
Other suppliers will also be busy preparing 7-inch pills slated to operate Android 3.. ViewSonic is apparently wishing to become the first one to the marketplace having a 7-inch Honeycomb tablet by starting the ViewPad 7x in June. Sprint is likewise preparing its 7-inch HTC Flyer (also known as Evo View 4G), also fitted with Honeycomb, hitting customers between June.
Neither Acer nor Google immediately came back CNET's demands for comment. But a business source, who requested to not be named, revealed to CNET the reason behind the apparent delay of 7-inch Honeycomb pills.
"Google a week ago reported a brand new Honeycomb release particularly for 7" pills, known as MR2 (maintenance release 2)," based on the source. "It's scheduled for mid/finish This summer release. OEMs (original equipment producers) estimate it will require them 4-8 days to port the brand new release for their specific hardware platforms...therefore device makers are focusing on September accessibility to 7" Honeycomb pills. This can allow Honeycomb and connected applications to scale towards the more compact 1024x600 screen resolution."
Depending on these details, should we have now expect a delay for ViewSonic's ViewPad 7x and Sprint's Evo View 4G
